In the month of July, 2019, Export Saint Lucia in collaboration with the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) and local art galleries will host an Exhibition to showcase Saint Lucian Art to visiting curator, Ms Mikhaile Solomon, director and founder of the Prizm Art Fair in Miami, Florida.
Prizm is the producer of an Art Fair, which is a cutting-edge cultural platform that is multidisciplinary in scope and exhibits the work of 120 international artists from the African Diaspora, Caribbean, and emerging markets. It is one of the leading art exhibitions in the United States for artists from the diaspora and features the presentation of works in various media that include: drawings, painting, video, photography, sculptures, installation, and new media.
We are therefore in search of suitable fine artists, sculptors and contemporary artists to be part of our showcase of Saint Lucian Art in July with the goal of securing participation in the Prizm Art Fair, which takes place in Miami annually.
CRITERIA
- The artist must be a citizen of Saint Lucia or must be a company registered in Saint Lucia
- The artist must complete an expression of interest formand submit the following to Export Saint Lucia by June 21, 2019;
- A copy of their portfolio of work. Artists submitting softcopies of portfolios should email these to hfelix@exportsantlucia.org
- Two pieces under the following themes:
Vwément Sent Lisi
Vwément Sent Lisi will provide the curator with a look into what inspires Saint Lucian artists’ creations relating to their homeland, Saint Lucia. This includes artwork paying tribute to Saint Lucia, its culture, landscape, people etc. or artwork addressing cultural, social or political issues.
Lanmityé adan Sent Lisi
The theme Lanmityé adan Sent Lisi is in keeping with the theme for this year’s Prizm Art Fair, held in Miami. Through this theme, artists are being asked to
illustrate how we perceive and express love as a result of our cultural background.
Expressing, through your artistic medium, the knowledge handed down by our forefathers. Exploring the systems of hatred, which deemed us as; cheap labour, property and objects of sexual pleasure. How do we now express love, having these demoralizing acts as our subtext?
How do we express love to the future generation and create a different expression from that of our forefathers.
Selection of the artists to participate in the Saint Lucian Art Showcase will be carried out by a team comprising Export Saint Lucia, CDF and local curators.
The deadline for confirmation of interest and submission of the requirements to Export Saint Lucia is Friday June 21, at 4:30 p.m.
