CDF contributes to Education in Saint Lucia

With its mission “to nurture and develop culture and artistic expression as instruments of social transformation and nation building”, the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) recently lent support to the educational advancement of two (2) students in the north and south of the island.  The quasi-government organisation seeks to support the development of the Arts in Saint Lucia in an effort to capture the talent and enthusiasm of the youth, thereby empowering our people to become the architects of their future.

Against this background, the CDF, for the second year since its inaugural launch in 2017, made a monetary contribution to the first prize winner of the Cohen & Bruce Williams Literary Award 2018, Ms. Jade Albert from the Augier Combined School.   The Award was the brainchild of Vieux Fort native and writer Modeste Downes.  The initiative targets students of Primary and Secondary Schools, below the age of 17 years and encourages them to compose and make poetry, essay and short story submissions.  Their efforts are rewarded with financial assistance for the procurement of school supplies. Other prizes were awarded to the 2nd place winner (Fibi Williams), also from Augier Combined for poetry and Nazreen Bellas (3rd place) of Vieux Fort Primary.  A scholarship cheque in the amount of EC$1000, was also presented to a needy student of the Vieux Fort Primary, sourced by the Williams family.

During the thirty-second (32nd) Graduation Ceremony of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College which took place on Sunday 2nd December, 2018, the CDF made a contribution to Ms Cheyenne Quinlan for the Most Outstanding Student Award in the Business Administration Associate Degree Programme, Business and Secretarial Studies Department, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.  The CDF congratulates both recipients on their achievements and wishes them well in their future undertakings.
