Throughout my formal study of Art, which presently spans over the past 19 years, I still have yet to encounter another artist who singularly epitomises a country’s identity like the St. Lucian Artist, Dunstan St. Omer. While other Caribbean artists experiment and struggle with self-identity and ruminations of “Caribbeanness”, the octogenarian St. Omer has adopted a bold and direct approach: to draw and paint his environment around him, and in the process of doing so, formulates his unique iconography and motifs.
