Fèt la magwit

Tomorrow is October 17th – the commemoration date for one of our two flower festivals (Fèt la magwit).

This year, the grand celebration will take place in Vieux Fort, however schools from around the island will be part of the festivities. For instance, in Castries over twenty schools; preschools, infant, primary and special education schools will be part of the church service at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception after which students will parade around the Derek Walcott Square.

Similar activities will take place in Soufriere, Canaries and Dennery. Schools within the school districts will commence the day’s celebration with a church service followed by a parade from the church. Students will then return to their respective schools to continue the celebrations. All church services begin at 10:00 a.m.

In Vieux Fort, the service will take place at The Lady of the Assumption. The parade is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon from the church to the Vieux Fort Square where several lively presentations will be made by La magwit adult groups and students from within the Vieux Fort district.

The Cultural Development Foundation extends an invitation to join us in celebrating this another aspect of Saint Lucian culture.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
