From The Mouth Of The Poets

From The Mouth Of The Poets

The air is thick with anticipation as the minutes slip by.  I’s are being dotted, T’s are being crossed and the poets are clearing their throats for one final run-through of their pieces before they step into the spotlight.   The National Cultural Centre is being prepped for the 7:30 p.m. commencement of what promises to be an exceptional evening of Performance Poetry.

Some of the best poets from Pom Dammou will sweeten the hearts of the audience with words that flow off their tongues like fresh honey oozing from the core of the honeycomb. Sadie Descartes, Brendan Joseph, Rochelle Calderon Adrian Klein and Ras Isley, no strangers to the stage will leave the audience savouring the goodness of their delightful offerings.

Headphunk will take the audience on a lyrical journey through time and space and will transcend them to a place of sheer beauty.  Their euphemism will comfort, their irony will flatter and their rhymes will leave listeners breathless. The grace and poise of Black Crayon, Xylaw, Hanson Narcisse, Felicia Montoute and Vladimir Lucien, among other Headphunkers will entice and mesmerize all those in attendance.

The evening will be incomplete without the artistic prowess of Glenn Charlery, the guest performer.  “His work although, undeniably grassroots in theme and content, bares a sophistication otherwise associated with only the intellectual elites, thus marrying “Conway to Cap Estate”; the two archetypes of a split national identity, in a quest to fashion a united cultural identity for his and succeeding generations. “

According to Nosdivad Enneitte, Events and Production Officer at the Cultural Development Foundation, tonight’s activity will be “motivational” and “eye-opening” and will serve as a platform for the “further development of many of night’s performers.”

Performance Poetry forms part of Festival Week on the National Arts Festival calendar.
