Keeping Promises
The recently rebranded and restructured CDF did make a promise to Saint Lucia in 2013 that the CDF would provide a refurbished National Cultural Centre (NCC). In keeping with this promise, the CDF has been paying much attention to the NCC.
The facility has a lot of scope and it is used a lot, so bearing that in mind we must undertake maintenance works for the comfort of the patrons who use the facility, for the comfort of performers and the general safety of all who use the facility.
The National Cultural Centre (NCC) got much needed Love, Care and Attention from “Koudmen NCC” an activity designed to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and garner the assistance of Artists, Staff and Management of the CDF in ensuring that a sanitary and clean environment was provided for the Arts and Culture Fraternity.
Harris Paints brightens things up
Participants seized the opportunity to clean and paint the dressing room and washroom facilities backstage through the kind compliments of Harris Paints (St. Lucia) Ltd; Power washed the external washrooms, undertook a spring cleaning under the bleachers, and gave a general clean-up to the external perimeter of the National Cultural Centre. The National Cultural Centre can now boast of the inclusion on new comfortable chairs to its outfitting.
Building Relationships
The fun and excitement filling the air at the NCC, overpowered the significant volume of cleaning to be done on Saturday February 1st. This event also saw the fostering of new friendships amongst artists who were present. The warm words of encouragement coming from individuals who had an opportunity to view the news clipping of the Koudmen and persons visiting the NCC were overwhelming. The CDF is very encouraged by the positive feedback and to assure our patrons that this is a sign of bigger things ahead for the NCC.
Friends indeed!
The success of this event would not have been realized if our friends and well-wishers did not come out in large numbers and with great enthusiam to assist us and for this we will be forever grateful. The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Cultural Development Foundation say “Hats Off” to:
Harris Paints (St.Lucia) Ltd for a donation of paint
Saint Lucia Distillers and Mervin Charles for donation of drinks
Augustine Dominique for donation of Drinks
Youth A Flame for volunteering time and labour
Chairman and Directors of Folk Research Centre for volunteering time and labour
Directors of the Cultural Development Foundation for donation of drinks and labour
Staff of the Cultural Development Foundation for donation of food, time and labour
Floreta Nicholas and Act Now Generation for volunteering time and labour
The CDF would like to encourage all users and patrons of the National Cultural Centre to assist us in ensuring that the NCC remains in this clean condition as this is the primary venue and home for many national cultural events and is known as the ‘Calypso Headquarters’ during the carnival celebrations annually. Let’s all contribute and do our part in maintaining the NCC.
