INDEPENDENCE FILM COMPETITION 2017

The Caribbean Youth film festival (CYFF) produced a film competition as part of Saint Lucia’s 38th Independence celebrations.

The competition invited St. Lucian of all ages to produce a ten minute video depicting “What makes St. Lucia Unique”  keeping with this year’s slogan “I am St. Lucia.”

CYFF an already established festival for filmmakers on the island, sought to further engage all filmmakers and interested persons to produce a film which shows off the  island from their unique point of view. The film will subsequently be shown nationally.

Objectives of the festival included:

  • To produce a ten minute video Short.
  • To educate more specifically a new generation.
  • To increase national pride.
  • To archive for national prosperity.

The following outcomes were realised:

  • Twelve films were submitted into the competition
  • Three by filmmakers under 18. With the youngest being twelve years
  • Two music videos
  • Two documentaries
  • One Docu-drama
  • One Video Blog
  • Five Short films

Winners were announced at a ceremony presentation on March 4th 2017 at the YARD in Gros Islet.

1st Place Under 18 Category………….. Andres Devaux

2nd Place Under 18 Category…………  Kerbriyan Charlery

1st place Over 18 Category……………. Pierre Chester

2nd Place Over 18 Category…………….Wyndell Neptune
