Eight (8) La Woz groups from around the island met at the CDF Conference Room on Wednesday 25th June in a follow up meeting to solidify plans for the celebration of La Woz 2014.
In reviewing some of the key issues highlighted at the previous meeting of June 12th, the matters of non-interest by young people and a general lack of participation by the public were forcefully re-iterated.
According to Gregor Biscette, president of the Pensioners Association, who was also present at today’s session, “the Association is keen on being a part of the celebration of La Woz and we look forward to participating in as many of the activities as possible.”Biscette pledged his support and that of his Association to the development of Saint Lucian culture.
The community groups submitted their plans for this year’s observances and sought the assistance and participation of sister La Woz groups for the successful celebration of the well-loved cultural society. These discussions led to the formulation of a tentative outline for what will become an exciting programme for festivities on August 30th.
Drenia Frederick, Director of Events and Production at the CDF informed the gathering that targeted training sessions would take place in their communities in key areas of stage presentation – one of the deficiencies which had been sighted during previous analysis meetings. This training aims to make the celebrations more attractive to the public, thereby encouraging Saint Lucians to join in the celebrations.
Group members agreed to meet on Wednesday July 9th, when they will present final recommendations for the schedule of activities for this year’s celebration of La Woz.
