The Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre remembers the late Sir Dunstan St. Omer who would have been ninety (90) years on October 24th. Born in 1927, this international art and cultural Icon had been declared a National Cultural Hero by the FRC in 2006. In 2010 Dunstan St. Omer was awarded a Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the arts in Saint Lucia, the Caribbean, and the world at large. Sir Dunstan who passed away on May 5th 2015 was an artist of international repute. Among his legacies were the design of the St. Lucia flag in 1967 and the painting of many church murals including that of the Catholic Church in Jacmel proudly enunciated by Ms. Angela Simon the winner of the “La Wenn De La Wenn” pageant (who represented Jacmel) which took place on Saturday October 21st 2017 at the National Cultural Centre.
The remembrances of Sir Dunstan’s birthday will take the form of a painting demonstration at the FRC’s headquarters at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday October 24th at 10:00am. His wife lady Cynthia along with the rest of his family will be on hand to witness the revering of this great son of the soil. Students who will be at the Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre attending cultural education classes will participate in the ceremony.
