National Arts Festival 2015 Launched

The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), on Monday 26th January, hosted a networking event which was aimed at openly conversing with sponsors and partners regarding the non-profit organisation’s work and the crucial role that collaboration plays in fulfilling its mandate.

The Corporate Mixer sort to highlight the achievements of the newly rebranded CDF for 2013 – 2014 as well as to point out the roles of the various departments in the organisation and how their collective efforts work toward the functioning of the whole. Additionally, the event served as a launch for the 2015 National Arts Festival.

In his welcome remarks, Executive Chairman of the CDF, Petrus Compton highlighted that “the work of the CDF is not simply about the formation of dancers, painters, writers and so on, nor is its highest expression found in events and spectacles. We are ultimately about shaping national character and stimulating the process of self-definition which is critical for the sustenance of a nation.” He encouraged the gathering “to continue to be a part of this vital process… in shaping a strong purposeful and rewarding experience for sweet Saint Lucia.”

Musical performances from saxophonist Deland St. Jules and Darlene Anius were a refreshing addition to an easy going and relaxing evening.  An entertaining theatrical performance from George “Fish” Alphonse and Kiedel Sonny explored communication challenges that exist between the newer and older generations. Throughout the evening, invitees were encouraged to leave their imprint, using the medium of paint on canvas; an activity most described as “liberating”. These forms of artistic expression represent some of the areas where training and development will focus during this year’s National Arts Festival.  Showcasing of the same will take place during the months of February to May.

The Cultural Development Foundation continues to encourage proponents of the arts to take advantage of training and opportunities to exhibit their work to allow for growth and development of the individual and by extension the creative arts sector.
