The Cultural Development Foundation and the Saint Lucia School of Music announce their decision to reschedule the collaborative concert originally slated for December 14th, 2014.
Following the very well-received press launch of the Cultural Icons Project and the inaugural events to celebrate the life and works of Saint Lucia’s great musical artist, and first cultural icon to be celebrated, Charles Cadet, the two organizations took stock of the objectives of the celebrations decided that the overarching aims – to honour the artist; to present the artist’s life and legacy to the public in top quality shows; to engender new interest and appreciation of the works; to inspire up and coming artists; to create legacy products that reach far and wide – would perhaps not be achieved within the hustle and bustle of pre-Christmas celebrations and the numerous other events taking place around the selected date.
The proposed celebrations have now been scheduled for the period during the National Arts Festival and Independence (February to March). Ongoing preparations to facilitate top quality recording of the shows will continue and the organizers look forward to enabling viewers from across the world; students of the arts; and fans of Charles Cadet to enjoy the show for generations to come.
The Ode to an Artist concert brings together approximately 100 performers carrying the audience on a thrilling journey through the life and work of Charles Cadet – traditional favourites will mingle with R&B interpretations, entirely new works and exciting arrangements and interactive elements. The orchestra will be very close to a full symphony orchestra and the music will be a mix of melodies and genres that will have young and old captivated, smiling and singing along.
The music will include an entirely new work, La Fin Journée (a folk requiem), arranged by Gregory Piper and exciting new arrangements by visiting Associate Professor of Music Composition at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, Alejandro Rutty and his wife, Dr. Laurena Guillen, highly accomplished Choral Director, who are both here on a one-year residency at the Saint Lucia School of Music.
