Pitching and Directing Lectures and Workshops

TEPA in collaboration with the Caribbean Youth Film Festival and the AVFA will be promoting the film sector as part of the Specialty Caribbean Expo in March. The first exercise includes lectures and workshops on Pitching and Directing this coming Friday March 3rd at the Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds from 10am – 4:30p.m. hosted by film producers and lecturers Peter Rudge and James Fair both from the United Kingdom. This event is free and is perfect for seasoned and aspiring filmmakers who want to learn or review effective methods in attracting producers to help produce your film concept. It will also help you fine-tune your directing skills when you are ready to get behind the lens again. Don’t miss this all important and very practical programme this Friday. The schedule is included below:

Friday 3rd March

10.00am – lecture on pitching

This lecture looks at how to pitch a project successfully, what makes a good pitch and how to structure it. It will examine the performance aspect of the pitch and discuss the key elements that will sell the idea or project.

10.45am – workshop activity

The workshop activity will lead on from the lecture and will ask participants to develop a 25-30 pitch for a project or product. Over the course of the workshop will we develop this pitch, give feedback on thoughts and then ask each person to pitch to the group for peer review and further feedback.

1.00pm – lunch

2.00pm – Lecture on writing and directing short films

This lecture will look at how to direct actors and the camera to produce a coherent story and visual style. It will look at the importance of script development for the director, how to match performance to the story and intended visual style and how to direct the camera to enhance the actor’s performance.

2.45pm – Directing workshop

This directing workshop will ask participants to examine a scene from a script and develop a set of notes both for the actor and the DOP. We will then do a series of peer reviews and feedback sessions on these notes to help participants to develop their directing skills.
