Alliance Française De Sainte Lucie on Wednesday January 7th hosted a puppet show to a very appreciative audience in the theatre room at their Pointe Seraphine headquarters.
The event, which was attended by pre-schoolers, infant, primary as well as secondary school students was the first of its kind produced by Théatre du Flamboyant, a theatre company from the neighbouring island of Martinique.
Artistic Director of Wednesday’s production and head of the company, Lucette Salibur says in an effort to increase the interest of the youth in the arts it’s important to introduce them to cultural and artistic events from a very young age.
“We are here in Saint Lucia to find out what you are doing for young children in theatre and how we can work together to make the arts interesting for young audiences in the Caribbean.” One of the objectives of the theatre company is to create an effective network which can provide training for artists and professionals working with children with respect to theatre.
The forty-five (45) minute production intrigued directors, choreographers, teachers, students and lovers of the arts, who were in attendance with the simple yet profound story portrayed by Daniely Francisque. The performance was an interpretation of the journey of life from childhood to old age. It featured musician Alfred Fawtone and showed the eager spirit of a growing girl, always excited and open to learn and try new things, who would eventually become a wise and contented older lady.
