Press Release: Stronger Together. Music for Life Concert to help Saint Lucian Artistes Transition Post Pandemic

Castries St. Lucia. June 19, 2020: On Friday June 12,2020 A Coalition of Saint Lucia’s Music Industry Partners and Practitioners, hosted the benefit-concert, ‘Stronger Together- Music for Life’, in aid of Saint Lucian artistes live on Calabash TV. The concert featured an eclectic blend of vintage and contemporary St. Lucian performers from Invader to Kayo, Meshach to Rashad, Teddyson John and others. The business community, individuals and music lovers on Friday night all chipped in, to support the affected local music community.

The primary goal nonetheless of this project is to establish a fund for the Industry, as a means of creating greater financial access and independence for musicians. In the coming weeks, the Coalition will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with partners, an important step in the formation of the fund.

Executive Director of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), Mrs. Raymona Henry- Wynne applauded the success of this first step of this project amidst the current economic situation, reinforcing our resilience as a people.  Monetary contributions towards the cause to date total EC$6220.20. To move closer to the Coalition’s target of EC$20,000, the campaign continues as the Coalition invites Saint Lucia to support the future of our music by going to www.easyclicktickets.com to Chip in.

Recently appointed St. Lucian Brand Ambassador Teddyson John described the concert as “timely.” “Since the pandemic hit and the shutdown and closure of borders came into effect, as musicians we have given of ourselves in many ways, through telethons, virtual events and other free initiates through our gift of music.  And while we have given of ourselves wholeheartedly, our industry has been one of those most severely impacted by this pandemic. We have watched our income literally vanish with the cancellation of events and festivals, locally and internationally, so I am truly grateful that the Coalition recognized the need to take some form of action for the benefit of musicians.” He further remarked.

The Coalition extends gratitude to sponsors for ‘Stronger Together- Music for Life’ Concert including BOSLIL Bank, LUCELEC and Massy Stores.  Its partners, Export Saint Lucia, Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), Balance Inc., The Wave, Vybe Radio, Rendevous, Blazin FM, Saint Lucia National Trust, Azuk Events, Bay Gardens Beach resort, Oceans Brand Consulting and Studio 758.

Stronger Together Music for Life will be rebroadcasted on 26 June, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. on Calabash TV.
