Traditional Lantern Making Workshops to be held in Castries and Laborie

The Cultural Development Foundation invites students, families and community members to experience and participate in the annual Traditional Lantern Making Workshops commencing on Saturday, 2nd November, 2013 in Laborie from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 pm and in Castries, commencing from Saturday 16th November at the Cultural Development Foundation, Barnard Hill.

The goal of the workshops is to educate and create understanding of our culture and traditions and at the same time produce personalised paper lanterns which lantern makers will use to participate in the Lantern Competition and carry around during our Lantern Parade on Thursday 12th December, for the annual Festival of Light.

Participants in last year’s workshop enjoyed learning more about this Saint Lucian craft tradition. Decorating festive traditional lanterns is a unique Christmas tradition, celebrated in Saint Lucia for decades. Join the Cultural Development Foundation for a unique opportunity to learn more about Saint Lucian culture and create a festive holiday decoration to participate in our Lantern Competition or just to take home!
