The Government of Saint Lucia has kicked off a series of discussions on the architect’s first impressions of the proposed National Cultural Centre. The plans were prepared by Teng Consulting Group, Inc., based in Miami, Florida, for the Republic of China (Taiwan). The Centre will be a gift from Taiwan to the Government and People of St. Lucia.
Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, mention the planned new Cultural Centre in his Independence Day address. The public presentation of the plans is a step closer to the reality of Saint Lucia having an upgraded Centre elevated above what now passes for a Cultural Centre. The journey of getting to this point has been some 10 years – some say more – in the making when initial ideas and suggestions were place on the table by interested local parties in arts and culture. These initial discussions were conducted by the newly formed Cultural Development Foundation (CDF).
Two recent discussions took place earlier this week at the CDF Conference Room, Barnard Hill, Castries. The presentation by the Prime Minister’s Office was to hear feedback from a cross section of artists, cultural aficionados and the public.
